Repelling snakes and birds
A large number of birds and snakes in the Republic of Croatia are protected by law, and their extermination is therefore strictly forbidden and appropriately sanctioned and fined. However, since man keeps invading their natural habitats with continuous urbanisation, birds and snakes can now be found in the immediate vicinity of people, and can seriously disturb the normal course of their everyday activities with their habitual behaviour or mere presence, it is therefore necessary to find a compromise solution. The compromise can be found in various techniques of repelling the aforementioned groups of animals. One such method is the usage of mechanical obstacles such as spikes and nets which prevent birds (most commonly pigeons) from landing and dwelling on a particular surface.Chemical methods available on the market recently include specialised snake repellent agents (so called repellents) , which are not harmful to human health and the environment, and which repel snakes with their specific smell, which forces snakes to keep away from the treated surfaces.
